On August 17 and 18th, while students recreated and teachers vacationed, 51 churches and ministries joined together to bless schools and families through Project Hope. This annual outreach combines manual labor to prepare the school facilities for fall, and a joy-filled kids’ fair, where churches give away backpacks loaded with school supplies, haircuts, shoes, food and games.
From Walterville and Springfield, across Eugene to the Bethel and the Junction City school districts, approximately 6,000 volunteer hours were logged painting classrooms, pulling weeds, cleaning bleachers, moving desks, power-washing, and almost anything the maintenance teams needed!
The following day, right after church, teams went to work to set up the Kids’ Fair in four locations throughout our community. Each location had 8-12 churches/ministries joining together to set up inflatables, games, face-painting, haircuts and backpacks, supplies and shoe distribution. Food was generously donated by BJ’s, Hawaiian Time, Red Lobster, Home Town Buffet, Olive Garden, and Roaring Rapids Pizza.
It was a heavenly environment to be able to give freely without any strings attached. What a blessing to be His hands, feet, and heart extended! Thank you to all the churches who gave and made the backpacks and supplies possible, and thank you to all who served!
